Saving the hardest for last: Competency 8 - EDCI 670

I wonder how I would have approached competency 8 and it's sub-competencies if we started in reverse. Instead of Comp 1 & 2 we did 7 & 8 first. Thinking back on writing competency 1 & 2, it was hard to get into the swing of reflecting on artifacts over a year old. So I was able to write my narratives a little easier each week. But I was in a panic over which artifact to use and why. I believe I chose the right artifact for each sub-competency, the third one being the toughest. Dr. Dell was very patient and helpful in guiding all of us (those who need to be guided, me!) in working on the four issues -  social, ethical, legal, and human issues. Although my case had "social and ethical issues of aborigines of Australia and legal issues such as accessible media (closed captioning  and transcripts of video and audio materials) wheelchair bond attendees  etc."  I needed to focus or develop my narrative regarding the human issues and possibly legal issues more. I think I was able to achieve an acceptable narrative.

So even though I created this site within the first semester of the program and started writing my assignments with artifacts in mind, I didn't start writing the narratives until EDCI 670 started. I know that given writing a narrative versus putting a website together, I would up late tinkering about with page layouts and deciding on which favicon to use. I did minimal fidgeting with the site during the writing portion of the class. One piece of advice I will give is, start the portfolio early. I used it as a way to take a mental break from school work. It relaxes me and keeps me engaged at the prize at the end of this journey, graduation!

Intro Posting for the Practicum Course - EDCI 573

We were asked by Dr Lewandowski to include a little bit of personal and professional detail of our life. We were also asked to post an interesting non LDT picture... "Share something that will surprise others or elicit genuine comments.  (You know, the kind that doesn't require APA citations!)" - Judy LewandowskiWe were also asked to describe our practicum project and initial goals for choosing it.
This what I wrote, after my usual blurb:

I got the idea for my practicum project while in EDCCI 568. I intend to create a digital job aid for our internal customers. The module would explain the services our team offers, the form to submit, and how to request it. There is much waste in consultations and effort on re-doing work that was meant to be done in a different modality. It would help individuals seeking our help as well as other learning professional in figuring out what their options are.

Earlier I mentioned that I develop simple web-based modules for the LMS and I am forbidden to do any instructional design because that is done by another team. This project will allow me to “apply systematic design process” in a professional setting. I also want to design it to be compatible with mobile devices that we are starting to utilize more at work. I would be able to collaborate with other learning professionals at work and here in the program.
