What do you think Human Performance Technology entails?
HPT is a system to solve a problem. It involves change management and a plan to remove or deal with the problem. I hear about Human Performance Improvement as I am in a corporation. In corporations we are always in need of improving our performance and training is usually the one answer that is seen as a fix-all. I also think in terms of change management or a process to achieve the improvement.
What skills and knowledge do you already have that you feel relate to the content of this course?
In my previous position at Kaiser, I was a trainer at a HR call center. We analyzed, recommended, and put forth processes to improve call times, redundancies, and customer service. We conducted an analysis on how many times an agent had to click through wiki pages to get to the information they needed in order to assist their customer. We then worked on standardizing certain processes and streamlined the search so agents could find the information quicker and less abandoned searches.
What do you hope to gain from this course?
I would like to add HPT to my ID toolbox and professional vocabulary. I have also learned how to conduct a front end analysis in a couple of the classes in this program. But I am still learning what questions to ask to get to the root cause. I hope to learn what questions to ask to get useful answers to help get to a solution.
What do you expect to contribute to this course?
I hope to synthesize our readings and discussions in order to contribute to discussions with meaningful examples and ideas. I have some professional experiences that may or may not be HPT. I have specifically incorporated electronic performance support system (EPSS) in relationship to my work with the HR call center I mentioned above.
How do you believe you will use what you learn in this course in your future career?
It’s been a habit of mine to think of a solution before doing any analysis or ask good questions. I hope to learn to be supportive of my clients and dig for more information. I hope to break my bad habit of thinking of solutions before considering anything else. In doing this it will help me with what I want to gain from this course as I wrote in the previous question, to add HPT to my ID toolbox and professional vocabulary.
